This year has made quite an impact on all of us. We’ll have a book to write about our experiences through this season, but I thought I’d share some thoughts on what we’re seeing as we interact with customers in our store. There are a few consistent messages and themes we see and hear, over and over, every day. Every. Single. Day. We feel super privileged to both hear and hold our customers stories….which also give us this realistic view of what’s happening in our community. So for today, I’d love to focus on the most pervasive theme we’re seeing – anxiety.

Friends, i’m 100% serious when I say that about 80% of people who come in our store these days are either struggling with anxiety themselves, or have a family member or loved one who is.  It’s become the #1 thing we talk about every day. So, if you are one of those who are struggling – you are not alone. We tell this to every customer who comes to talk with us, and it’s such an important reminder. Most people today have some kind of anxiety that they didn’t have or know a year ago. Anxiety has no age bias, it doesn’t’ give you warning on when it will overload your system, and it never looks exactly the same for every person. It is relentless, and the struggle is real. (Personally, sometimes I think of anxiety like a thief. It can rob you of your sleep, and joy, and sanity.)

I used to have a counselor who would say to me all the time, ‘the body keeps score’. When we experience loss, or grief, or trauma – our body sort-of ‘remembers’. It’s simply automatic – and about brain chemistry, and we really don’t get much control of it. This season, as a community – we have experienced more change, and loss, and grief, and trauma, and disruption, and fear than ever before. Enough for a lifetime, for most. Of course, this looks different for each and every person, but it’s just the truth – and our bodies are keeping score! So, there’s never been a better time to be good to ourselves, and to our bodies. Taking care of ourselves, practicing selfcare, keeping our body and mind healthy should be a top priority for all of us.

While there are dozens of good things to practice and implement regarding anxiety (exercise, yoga, counseling, etc.), consistently using CBD can also be extremely helpful. Here’s a reminder of how CBD works in our body.

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is found in the DNA of our bodies. The primary purpose of this signaling system is to works with, communicate, and regulate wellness with many other body systems. It accomplishes this by sending naturally made molecules (endocannabinoids) to bind with our CB1 and CB2 receptors. These receptors, which are spread all over the body (including our brain and spinal cord), send signals to each other, and help control millions of chemical reactions in the body.

Because of this, the ECS has an influence on our brain, central nervous system and cognitive health.

CBD is a Phytocannabinoid (from plants). It interacts with our body similarly to the way our Endocannabinoids do. CBD can supplement the bodies naturally produced amount of endocannabinoids – ultimately promoting balance and wellness in these affected systems.
