Broad Spectrum, Full Spectrum, & Isolate. What’s the difference?

Our entire product lineup at 180 Pure is created using phytocannabinoid rich broad spectrum hemp oil. Knowing why we made that decision, why we continue to make that decision – is core to what makes us unique. So, let’s begin with some education on the three main types of CBD oil that companies can use.

What is CBD Isolate?

CBD isolate is the purest form of cannabidiol and comes in a crystal or powdered form. During the extraction process, all other phytocannabinoids have been removed to create the isolate product. Think of it as isolating just one compound in a plant that has over a hundred. What you miss out on, however, are the benefits of all the other cannabinoids found in the plant since they’ve all been stripped from this type of oil.

When you buy an isolate CBD product, you’re missing out on all of the other cannabinoids and terpenes found in high-quality hemp. And, researchers still don’t understand exactly which compounds interacting with other naturally found compounds make hemp itself so beneficial. So, until there’s more research – we like to stick with the nature made variety.

What is Full Spectrum CBD Oil or Hemp Oil?

When a company talks about using full spectrum hemp oil or full spectrum CBD oil, they mean the product contains almost the entire cannabis plant. I like to think of it as it’s FULL of everything in the plant. Full spectrum hemp seed oil contains phytocannabinoids in addition to other components such as terpenes and flavonoids. Terpenes are the aromatic oil in plants that give off its distinct scent. Scientists have learned that hemp works best when all of the compounds are used together, which creates a synergizing effect that allows for “the entourage effect”. (More on this in a separate BLOG)

The downside of this oil type is the presence of THC, which can cause unwanted and psychotropic side effects. (THC is the part of marijuana that gets you ‘high’.) THC is found in hemp plants and, if used in CBD products, is supposed to be only 0.3% or less of the plant. The problem is, the CBD market is still very unregulated – so being confident in the low amount of THC in a product can be challenging.

What is Broad Spectrum CBD Oil or Hemp Oil?

Broad Spectrum Hemp Oil (which is our choice at 180 Pure), uses the whole hemp plant – EXCEPT for the THC. This formula is very similar to full spectrum oil, with the exception that all the THC compounds have been carefully extracted. You won’t get a ‘high’ feeling from this formula, but you still reap the benefits of all the minor cannabinoids, and other compounds found naturally in the plant. The greater variety of active ingredients provides a greater variety of healing properties than a CBD isolate oil could provide. For those people concerned with THC, and who need a real THC-free option, 180 Pure offers a CBD product they can count on.
